PEACE DAY September 21, 2012

Whether it's through music, sports, dance or art, The International Day of Peace a/k/a Peace Day is about spreading peace your way. Whatever action you take to mark September 21, 2012 is up to you.

The nonprofit organization, Peace One Day, founded by the British documentary filmmaker and actor Jeremy Gilley, led a successful campaign to pass UN Resolution 55/282 recognizing September 21 as “Peace Day,” a day of global ceasefire and non-violence. 29 Pieces has a long relationship with Jeremy. In 2005, 29 Pieces Co-Founder Karen Blessen collaborated with Jeremy to create a children’s book titled  “Peace One Day.”

Anyone anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, or just sitting in silent meditation.

29 Pieces invites you to our “Make Peace, Make Art” open house on August 25
(124 N Peak, Dallas).  Drop in any time between 10 am - 6 pm and make your masterpeace. Use our art supplies or bring your own. We will help you prepare your art entry for the upcoming Peace Project exhibit.

Peace Day is also a Day of Ceasefire – personal or political. Take this opportunity to make peace in your own relationships as well as impact the larger conflicts of our time. Imagine what a whole Day of Ceasefire would mean to humankind.

About The Peace Project: Over the past two years, artists from around the world have submitted their vision of peace and helped create incredible change through The Peace Project.  On World Peace Day, 2011, The Peace Project led Operation Rise, and distributed 10,000 pairs of crutches across Sierra Leone, Africa, instantly changing the lives of thousands of amputees, war victims, women and children.
This effort was funded, in part, by The Peace Project’s Annual Call-for-Artists, proving that art truly does change the world.

29 Pieces is pleased to be collaborating with this global effort this year,
and invites Dallas-area artists to join us, and to compete for some great prizes at the same time.
This year, the 29 Pieces offices and gallery will be the first venue for the Peace Project Show, during the Deep Ellum Art Walk on September 22.

CALL FOR ARTISTS

29 Pieces is collaborating with Los Angeles-base nonprofit, The Peace Project, for an exhibit in our offices on September 22.
The 3rd Annual Call For Artists is now open.
A traveling exhibit will be created from the submissions. All funds raised through the Call For Artists and the traveling exhibit will help fund The Peace Center, proving that art truly does change the world -- and that we are not too small to tackle the world's big problems. For more information on the Call-for-Artists,  CLICK HERE
In 2010, The Peace Project was founded to show that great change can happen very quickly if creative people work together. Since then:
  • Two traveling art exhibits have been created and two books published that feature over 1,000 visions of peace from artists worldwide.
  • Dozens of children in Sierra Leone are receiving an education through The Peace Project.
  • On World Peace Day, 2011, The Peace Project led one of the most unique collaborations ever, Operation Rise, and distributed 10,000 pairs of crutches across Sierra Leone, changing the lives of thousands of people instantly.
