Dallas LOVE Project Home Covered in LOVE Art

Today we honor our In-Kind Donor, Matthews Southwest and South Side on Lamar, for the perfect home for the Dallas LOVE Project.  When we realized we would be curating over 10,000 pieces of LOVE art, we knew our little office on North Peak would not "hold all the LOVE!"

Matthews Southwest and South Side on Lamar's generous donation of 7,000 sq feet of space allowed us to work in a perfect facility big enough to hold all the LOVE and train and coordinate the hundreds of Dallas LOVE Project volunteers.

We installed hundreds of pieces at South Side on Lamar in and around our offices...stop by and see all the LOVE!

THANK YOU Matthews Southwest and South Side on Lamar!

What IS 29 Pieces and Why Should You Give?

29 Pieces began as one artist’s personal, spiritual response to a murder.

Through commitment and passion, it has become a vibrant, growing organization that touches universal responses to the meaning and value of life.

Its vision is one of hope - to create a provocative, spiritual and purpose-driven art experience. 29 Pieces exists to empower children and adults by directly connecting them with their creative center – changing the way they learn, they way they problem solve, the way they interact with the world around them.

Please support 29 Pieces on September 19, North Texas Giving Day, by giving generously through
DonorBridgeTX.org.  Your dollars will be doubled by matching funds from the

Creative Connections Workshop Creates Meaningful Experiences

Greg Colgan, Member, 29 Pieces Board of Directors

The August Creative Connections workshop brought many enlightening experiences to our participants. Our day began with an introduction to 29 Pieces, which are 29 Pieces of art, inspired by the sacred words and poetry from many ancient traditions.

29 Pieces #11: Let Me Walk in Beauty
In a quiet and nurturing atmosphere, everyone meditated together and then created their own art, inspired by words from the poetry and books of the world's visionaries and mystics, such as St Therese of Lisieux, the Bible, Rabbi Abraham Isaac, Chief Yellow Lark and more.

Artwork #11 (above) is created from Chief Yellow Lark's prayer entitled "Let Me Walk in Beauty."

Ramey Colgan
"I loved the message and structure of the class.
I was amazed at how Karen was able to move people, provoke thoughts
and guide us to find our creative side, even those of us who don't normally think we're creative!" Ramey Colgan

Ashley Hoyland

Greg Colgan
Participants left the workshop spiritually refreshed and with a piece of original art of their own making.

Melanie Ferguson

"I am grateful for a day set aside for artful meditation and prayer-like creativity. The opportunity to simply be and make.  You have invited us into stillness and gratitude, and low and behold it's a salve to the dynamic static I often walk around it."  Melanie Ferguson

Sarah Maple
"It was calming.
It came at a time of great turmoil for me.
It strengthened me to face challenges ahead."
Sarah Maple

There will be more Creative Connections workshops in the future.  Stay connected with 29 PiecesBlogs, Facebook and Twitter for information on future workshop dates.

Creative Connections Workshop

Our Creative Connections workshop on July 13 produced some creative and inspiring artwork and comments from our participants.
Our August 17 workshop is full...but contact Karen Blessen at karen@29pieces.org to reserve your spot in September.

“The writing exercise was very insightful.
Wonderful selection of art materials to work with.
The explanation of the background of the 29 Pieces was excellent.
Loved the workshop—so glad I did it!”
 Margaret Culgan

“I like the atmosphere.  Participating began -- even walking in the door --
by being friendly and open.  Karen enhanced this, and we quickly shared (and cried) together. This my be typical of this event or it may be specific to this group,
but I loved it!”
Janet Lumpkin

“Really loved the entire workshop!  Especially hearing Karen’s story,
the readings of passages and dominant/non-dominant journaling.
Thoroughly enjoyed building collage around my chosen passage.”
 Ceil McDermott

“Very powerful experience!  I was amazed at the depth of work and inspired by insights of all participants. A great way to slow down and get in touch with your deep, creative self and moves one closer to experiencing real joy.”
Vicki Millican

 “I felt really engaged throughout.
Loved every bit.  The day flew by.
Meditation has never seemed accessible, until now."
Liz Trosper

“I want to be able to spend time in Karen’s gallery of the small 29 Pieces.
I could hardly keep from crying because of the spirit that came through.
The writing was very interesting as my non-dominant hand
had a very different way of speaking.
The art is always fun for me.  Stopping is hard!”
Jenny Jackson-Paton

What works in the 29 Pieces workshop?
“Everything!  It was helpful to hear you share how you started the process of meditating and showing us your work from the 29 Pieces.  The book (God Makes the Rivers to Flow) will inspire us to continue creating.”
Maria Teresa Pedroche
